Welcome and Introduction - blog 1

Welcome to the Broken Arrow Blog! This blog’s content and purpose is twofold. First, it will give updates and information on what is going on here at Broken Arrow and will also explain why we do what we do. The second reason is for education, I will be sharing recipes and preservation tips relating to our products to help ensure that you have the best culinary experience possible.  You will also find posts on gardening tips and tricks ranging from soil fertility to organic pest management, and crop specific tips.

Before we get to all those exciting topics I’ll give you a brief background on the farm and myself so you know where I am coming from. I’ll start with the farm’s history. Broken Arrow farm was started in 2015. The mission of the farm is to provide nutrient dense food free of synthetic chemicals to our local region at an affordable price. We currently offer 30+ varieties of vegetables, pasture raised eggs, and honey. We sell through local farmer markets, wholesalers, grocery stores, and our favorite method direct sales to individuals like you!  All of our products are raised using the most modern and cutting edge strategies of soil health, fertility, and food safety. We do this because we are proud to be your farmer, and believe that when it comes to food, you deserve nothing but the best!

Now you may be wondering who your farmer is. That would be me, my name is Riley. I grew up in southern Nebraska. Growing up I was always interested in agriculture, I helped with my families’ garden always taking care of the sweet corn, green beans, and other common vegetable crops. In high school I was very interested in science and went to college for Mechanical Engineering however after a year I decided that farming was where my heart is. So over the next three years I spent time majoring in Ag Business minoring in Agronomy, while also taking classes in organic horticulture, and reading over 40 books on everything from grain farming, agronomy, permaculture, and market gardening. At age 21 I decided to start Broken Arrow Farm and that has led me here. This blog will highlight my story while providing you information of what I’ve learned and am learning related to gardening, small scale farming, and most importantly creative ways to use our products to create culinary delicacies!

I hope you follow me along on my journey and I look forward to reading your comments and answering any questions you have along the way.
